Q: You are the Co-founder of The Vanishing Wheel Chair Inc. What is it?

A: It has been created to help special needs people find their place in this world.

Q: What about magic tricks makes you happy?

A: I can use my comedy Magic to show people that all things are possible. You can have a dream, and it can come true. LOOK AT ME.

Q: What did you enjoy the most about performing?

A: I get to see people laugh and smile. I get to show people that life can be good. Even with challenges in your life, it can be good.

Q: What do you find most challenging?

A: Everything is a challenge. Getting out of bed, taking a shower, staying alive.

Q: If you had an unlimited amount of money and resources, what would your goal be?

A: To help special-needs people, like myself, find their passion and purpose in this world. I want to give them a reason for getting out of bed each morning. Too many people just give up, or give in.

Q: What piece of “life advice” can you offer readers?

A: Believe in something bigger than yourself. Call it whatever you want. If you do, ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE………

“What an amazing story and more amazing and inspiring individual. Thank you for sharing this wonderful soul.”

Professor Whizzpop Friday!

Professor Whizzpop entertaining a crowd in June 2012

Asheville is abuzz with the news that WNC Magic Club‘s Tom Hughes, known and loved as Professor Whizzpop, presents a free show at The Hop West this Friday, September 21st at 6:30 PM.

Tom inspires great devotion among fans. Some have been found sleeping regularly with his coloring book and temporary tattoo.

Tom is equally devoted to those who adore him, performing recently with a fractured clavicle (look it up), a rite of passage for the serious cyclist. He’s now joined the likes of Tour de France winners and Mr. Twister-Asheville’s father, who met up quite suddenly with a charging Bull Mastiff (look it up) in 1989. Totaled the bike; dog was unharmed.

If you’re out and about Friday night in West Asheville, stop in for ice cream and big fun. See you there!

September 2012 Meeting

Joe offers a bill for Marty - returned despite the presence of flame.

You can always count on Joe.

Our September meeting drew about 15 members and guests.

Marty Shapiro, current president, led the business meeting. Major items included:

  • Formalizing our October 9th meeting for the Two Brothers One Mind performance
  • A reminder to pay annual dues to Gil Carlson, preferably before the October event
  • Bidding farewell to Marcus before his move to Virginia
  • Moving the November meeting and officer nominations to Ricky Boone’s house
  • Viewing the new wncmagic.com website by PolkaDot Social.
Entertaining performances were provided by Glenn, Calvin, Gil, Matthew, a young guest, and Marty. Afterward, we broke into small study groups. We had such fun that some of us weren’t headed home until 4 hours after the meeting’s start.
See you next month for the Tuesday, October 9th, 7 PM show by Two Brothers, One Mind!
